The sacred Breath + seated pose
How long can a human go without food for? ... a month?...
How long can a human go without water for? ... a few days...
But how long can we go without breathing for? ... Only a couple of minutes.
BREATHING is vital. Especially while practicing Yoga. A yogi said that trying to do yoga without controlling the breath is like trying to cross the ocean in a ship with holes in it... You will eventually sink. We learned that there are 3 things we must do in order to have a good asana: 1. Breath, 2. Bone alignment, and 3. Gesture. But it starts with the breath.
Syl taught that it is a great idea to start (and end) a Yoga session sitting in Siddhasana, or Sukhasana, on the edge of a blanket. These poses will set you up to teach students how to breath correctly. First, notice how you are breathing naturally. Is your breath slow or fast? Deep or shallow? In the bottom of your stomach or in your ribcage? Notice how you are breathing, and then start controlling it. Breath in deeply, and out deeply. Focus.

I've never in my whole life focused on my breathing, so this is going to be something very new and challenging for me, but I'm going to try it!
